The Internet

Once upon a time, normal people didn't know what the Internet was. Some people knew about the Bulletin Board Systems (BBS), others knew about System Network Architecture (SNA) systems, and a rare few knew about both. When I was first introduced to the Internet, it was a text based system accessed almost exclusively through Telnet sessions. Then one day some guy invented the browser.

Poof! All of a sudden, everyboby knew about the Internet.

Yet, there is a tremendous amount of "stuff" about the Internet that most people know nothing about. On this page I hope to expose my visitors to some of the more interesting, albeit highly technical, aspects of this amazing, expanding universe.

Best Web Applications

I have deemed these applications to be the Doug's Coolest Web Apps. To make the list there are important criteria:
  * Must be unique.
  * Must have been created to be useful, not just cool.
  * Must be not be based on a fad.

And the winners are:
[X] The Dox Desk browser parasite detector for IE.
[X] Travelocity's Dream Maps.
[X] NASA's 3D Satellite Tracker.
